More than 80 runners from Alabama competed in the TCS New York City Marathon, with Steven Estrada of Birmingham finishing tops among the group.
Estrada, 46, crossed the line the event in 3:29:55. The marathon was held Nov. 6 with more than 50,000 runners making their way through the five New York boroughs. It was the first time in three years, due to Covid-19, that the marathon was at full capacity.
A trio of Huntsville-area runners were among the top state finishers after Estrada, who officially finished in 3,309th place.
Angela Lopez, 35, of Harvest, was the second state runner across the finish line at Central Park. She finished in 3:34:43, in 4,043rd place.
Robert Youngren, 48, of Owens Cross Roads, was third from Alabama at 3:44:15, followed by Daniel Yant, 38, of Huntsville, at 3:48:07.

Tennessee Finishers
Sricharan Kadimi, 24, of Nashville, took top honors among the 170 Tennessee finishers in the marathon with a time of 2:37:53. That’s a 6:02 per mile pace and was good for 78th place overall.
Justin Weinmeiser, 28, of Knoxville, was next at 2:51:40 and 305th place.
Benjamin Maenza, 34, of Brentwood, and representing Achilles International, finished 16th in the Handcycle Marathon in a time of 1:57:13. Forty-seven athletes competed in the Handcycle division.

The marathon begins at Fort Wadsworth on Staten Island, with runners marking the first mile by crossing the Verrazzano Narrows Bridge into Brooklyn. The route continues north into Queens, then crosses the Queensboro Bridge into Manhattan. From there runners turn north and go briefly into Bronx, before turning south again into Harlem, down the Upper East Side and into Central Park for the finish.
