Team Rocket Tri Club Honors 4 for Outstanding Season

Four members of the Team Rocket Tri Club were honored for an outstanding season for their athletic achievements and volunteer efforts at local events.

The club was incorporated in 1999 as the Spring City Triathletes, and changed in 2010 to Team Rocket Tri Club. The group puts on at least eight events in Huntsville each year. These include triathlons, duathlons, swims and kids’ events. Members also participate in other events throughout the country.

Members met Oct. 8 at Fleet Feet Madison to enjoy remembering the season and reveal the awards.

— Rookie of the Year – Ashleigh Hobson “A new TRTC member who has hit the ground running and is a rock star.”

— Volunteer of the Year – Jack Lyons “Reliable, dependable member helping TRTC races with the dirty work.”

— Athlete of the Year – Michael Swanson “Current TRTC member who has achieved great accolades in triathlon and had an outstanding season racing locally.”

The Rick Greif Award: Member of the Year – Tayana Castelli “Solid athlete participating in TRTC events and beyond, who also volunteers and is a mentor in the triathlon community.”

The club also announced leaders of its Points Pursuit Challenge. Instituted this year, members accrue points for volunteering, racing and training participation.  This year’s points leaders were Lyons and Castelli.

Award recipients received a walnut engraved plaque with their name and award category.
