Team Rocket Tri Club Shines at Louisville Ironman

Team Rocket Tri Club veterans Cydney and Henry Thomson earned podium finishes at the challenging Louisville Ironman 70.3 on Aug. 17.

The pair were among the nine club members in Louisville, which regularly attracts a strong field. More than 2,200 athletes finished the event this year. David King and Jeff Bounds, also of Huntsville but not members of the club, were in the field and finished the tri.

Cydney Thompson finished the tri in 7:15:27, which was fifth in the F65-69 age group of 25 athletes. She completed the 1.2-mile swim in 48:16, the 56.750-mile bike in 3:20:13, and 13.1-mile run in 2:51:26. She had transitions of 8:11 and 7:22.

Henry Thompson was fourth in the M70-74 division with times of 52:30, 4:04:53 and 3:13:50 for an overall of 8:29:13. He had transitions of 8:38 and 9:21.

Ironman Louisville athletes started with a 1.2-mile downriver swim in the Ohio River. The bike course took them from Louisville along the River Road through Oldham County. The run finale wound along the river and several Louisville parks before finishing downtown at Fourth Street Live.

Team Rocket Tri Club finished 34th in the club competition out of 197 clubs. Its next club event is the Rocketman Triathlon on Aug. 25 at Redstone Arsenal.
