The TVO Roundup: Dam Bridge 10K, Vulcan Run, Lobsterfest and More

Harper Branscome outkicked Josh Whitehead at the wire to win the Dam Bridge Run 10K on Nov. 22 in Florence.

Branscome, 20, of Muscle Shoals, finished in 34 minutes. He is a member of the Wallace State cross country team. Whitehead, 47, of Madison, was second in 34:03, runner-up again for the second straight year. Whitehead set an Alabama age group record with his time, though, one of several he holds.

Samantha Whitehead, 41, of Madison, won the women’s title and was 11th overall. She finished in 44:35.

The popular race had 161 finishers with an average time of 1:00:41.

Vulcan Run 10K

HOMEWOOD— Hunter Nails of Madison finished fourth in the Vulcan Run 10K on Nov. 7 in a flurry at the finish.

Nails, 27, crossed in 31:57.9 along with the second- and third-place runners finishing in 31-plus minutes. A little more than 20 seconds separated the three. Serhii Shevchenko of Kentucky won the race in 30:51.

Sarah Crouch, 36, of Madison, finished 13th and was second in the women’s division by two seconds. Crouch finished in 35:33.

Lobsterfest 5K

Nathaniel Pierce of Huntsville cruised to the win at the Lobsterfest 5K on Nov. 1 in south Huntsville.

Pierce, 39, finished in 17:08, with Jermaine Wade, 41, of Hazel Green, in second at 20:49.

Whitney Hollingsworth, 61, of Elkmont, won the women’s division. She was 10th overall and finished in 24:24.

The race began at St. Thomas Episcopal Church and sent runners out on the flat, fast Aldridge Creek Greenway.

Tootsie Roll 5K

MADISON — Jake Bryan of Madison won the 8th annual Knights of Columbus Tootsie Roll 5K on Nov. 1.

Bryan, 18, finished in 17:08 to win by more than 15 seconds. He was runner-up last year.

Megan Allan, 41, of Huntsville, was third and won the women’s title. She finished in 17:27.

The race had 326 official finishers.

Chickamauga Battlefield Marathon

CHICKAMAUGA, Ga. — Tyler Younghouse of Guntersville finished 31st in the Chickamauga Battlefield Marathon on Nov. 8.

Younghouse, 35, finished in 3:29:49. Jason Tucker, 39, of Florence, finished 48th in 3:42:20.

Quack Attack 5K

Jermaine Wade zoomed to the win of the inaugural Quack Attack 5K on Nov. 8 in Huntsville.

Wade, 42, of Hazel Green, finished in 21:04, just ahead of Phil Tranquil, 52, who crossed in 21:27. Brian Ingle, 66, was third in 21:29.

Tranquil took Masters honors and Ingle had Grand Masters honors.

Chelsey Burks, 29, was fourth and won the women’s title. She finished in 22:12.
