Lorelai Coleman and Joel Freyenhagen captured top honors at the Tri for Ole Glory reverse triathlon July 16 in Huntsville.
Freyenhagen was first overall in 1:08:19, and Coleman was next in 1:17:44.
The reverse order tri is unique but has been a hit with local participants. Team Rocket Tri Club partnered with the U.S. Space & Rocket Center to help showcase the property around the space museum and Huntsville Botanical Garden. It also is a way to continue the efforts to provide a family-friendly mountain bike and running trail located near UAH and close to town. The event benefits the Brian “Pan” White Memorial Scholarship and other Space Camp scholarships.
The race begins with a 3.1 mile run on a mix of dirt, gravel and pavement. Racers transition to an 8-mile mountain bike course in hardwoods, cedar and pine groves. The course includes airplanes, rockets and space equipment along with climbs, twists and turns, creek crossings and jumps. Racers finish with a 200-meter swim in the Aviation Challenge swim area. Unlike regular triathlons, the Tri for Ole Glory gives participants a little twist with their strategy.
