Kevin Delk of Knoxville finished the grueling Badwater 135-mile endurance event in California, capping the latest TVO Roundup.
Delk is a previous finisher of the race, which sends competitors across Death Valley National Park with a 48-hour time limit. It’s the lowest elevation in the country with temperatures and heat indices easily hitting triple digits. This year’s event was July 4-7. The race begins in Badwater basin at 282 feet below sea level and ends at Whitney Portal. The end is 8,360 feet in elevation and is the trailhead to Mount Whitney.
Delk finished 22nd out of 89 finishers. Delk’s time was 33 hours, 11 minutes, 18 seconds.
Jessica Jones of Dauphin Island, Alabama, was 28th in a time of 34:49:40. This was her first Badwater 135 finish.
Ethan Coffee of Knoxville finished 82nd in 45:18:38. It also was his first finish.

Mountain Lakes Triathlon
Anthony Frederico of Auburn won the Mountain Lakes Triathlon on July 8 in Guntersville with an overall time of 2:12:24.
Hot on his heels and bike pedals was Andy Grant of Birmingham, who was second in 2:12:48. Grant was ahead going into the final event, the run, but Frederico zipped ahead for the narrow win.

Burn Your Half Off 5K
Grace Burks and David Hernandez tied for the win at the Burn Your Half Off 5K in Chattanooga on July 8.
The pair crossed the line in 26:05 to share the top spot. Josephine Schubert was second in 27:17, and Kasey Brown was third in 29:00.

Santa Hustle 5K
Teens ruled the podium at the Santa Hustle 5K in Chattanooga on July 8, with William Hazell easily winning in 18:20.
Lilly Kathryn Paxon was second in 24:11, and Juliana Paxon was third in 26:15. The nighttime race had 87 finishers.
