Race results and a few notes fill up this week’s TVO Roundup, which is doing battle with The Pollens after being in the spring woods all weekend.
Everything’s busting loose, from the race calendar with road and trail events to almost every plant with a tidbit of chlorphyll. Egads! And the pollen probably isn’t at it’s peak yet, either, although it’s close. If you’re a runner, biker, walker, hiker, angler or getter-outer, take a hankie or learn to blow snot rockets. Just make sure no one is beside you when you blow your honker holes.
On to the roundup:
Yeti 7/11 Endurance
In Lithia Springs, Ga., Carrie Lin, Janice Sutton and Zac Crider completed the 7- and 11-hour portions of the Yeti Trail Runners endurance event.
Lin finished the 11-hour with 20 loops while Sutton completed 28. Crider, of Tuscumbia, finished tied for second in the 7-hour event with 36 loops.
The event was at Sweetwater Creek State Park, using two trails there for the 4-mile course.

Upcoming Runs to Consider
The TVO Calendar is slammed with a solid variety of long and short road or trail events in the coming months. You can’t swing a howling cat without hitting something from a 5K to a 100-miler. That’s good, though, because we’re always in favor of more options. The triathlon season is cranking up, too.
Here are a couple of events to keep an eye on:
— This weekend in Decatur is the MarMac River City Run 10K and 5K, to benefit the Committee on Church Cooperation. The route takes runners through residential streets before finishing in Point Mallard Park. You’ll get some sidewalks, sunshine, maybe a smidge of wind and scenery on the backwaters of the Tennessee River. Register here to jump in.
— Also this weekend is the Heron Hundreds in Mooresville, taking place on the Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge roads. Put on by Fringe Events, this flat 20-mile loop will host the 100-mile, 100k, 40-mile and marathon options. On Saturday morning, too, is the Singing River 10K and 5K to benefit the Singing River Trail. Get the scoop here on all these events.
— The annual Double Helix Dash 5K returns April 1 after a weather cancelation last year. Booo, weather. This is a fun event at the Hudson Alpha campus on its DNA double helix chromosome path. It’s on Tuesday and starts at 5:30 p.m., so sign up and head over there after work. Register here
Tri Club Kickoff
Interested in triathlons, either as a newbie or veteran?
The season kickoff for the Team Rocket Tri Club is Thursday night at the Lost Highway Lounge at Yellowhammer Brewery. It’s from 6-8 p.m.
Club members can pick up apparel and gear. If you’re tri-curious, it’s a great way to meet club members, learn about training and locations, and get involved. The club puts on several events during the year, including a couple of duathlons and kids’ events.
Paracycling Event This Saturday & Traffic Heads Up
Roads in and around Cummings Research Park will be closed this Saturday for the U.S. Paralympics Cycling Time Trial.
The event is from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and the main race ring is Explorer Boulevard, which will close from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. The southbound side of Explorer from Farrow Road to Moquin Road will be closed from Friday at 6 a.m. to Saturday at 5 p.m. (March 28-29) for construction and breakdown of the finish line.
The start/finish line is in front of Columbia High School. Spectators are welcome to locate anywhere along the course to watch and cheer. The races are free and will include multiple categories including bicycles and handcycles.
