The racing schedule was light last weekend, so we’ll highlight a couple and include a few notes about upcoming events in this week’s TVO Roundup.
Three popular races and the annual Rocketman Triathlon were held in Huntsville and Decatur last Saturday. Trail and road runners got their fill with both, and the tri athletes had a whale of a time in the big Olympic event.
Here’s what’s been going on:
Bill Dukes 7 at 7
Matthias Kretzschmar of Germany won the Bill Dukes 7 at 7 race at Jack Allen Park in Decatur on Aug. 24.
Kretzschmar, of Dresden, finished in 25:38 and won by about two minutes. Trent Dean of Cullman was second in 27:36.
Lauren Estes of Cullman won the women’s title in 33:18. She was ninth overall. Kaylee Sharp of Huntsville was second (15th) in 35:03.
The 7K race had 80 finishers.

Cascades 100
Kyle Wagner of Huntsville completed the Cascades 100 on Aug. 24 in Sisters, Oregon, his second 100-mile finish in August.
Wagner finished in 24:57:20 and was 60th overall out of 203 finishers.
Colton Gale set a course record with his win. He finished in 14:36:05. Gale was one of eight runners to record Top 10 finishes.

The Cam Run
CHATTANOOGA — Athanas Kioko won The Cam Run in a speedy 13:59 on Aug. 24.
Kioko won by more than 40 seconds over Cole Bullock, who finished in 14:40.
Mary Francis Hoots won the women’s title in 19:26. She was 55th overall.
The race had 546 finishers and was facilitated by the Chattanooga Track Club. It is held in honor of Cameron Bean, who in 2015 died after being hit by a driver while out on a run.

RSA Bike Trails Closed
Two biking trails on Redstone Arsenal will be closed temporarily, according to a report in The Redstone Rocket.
Work began Aug. 12 on Weeden Mountain. The Miss Able and Explorer trails, which are on the mountain, will remain closed until completion. Tom Pyburn, Outdoor Recreation Manager for Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation, told the Rocket work will continue through at least November.
Battle for Chattanooga Series
The Chattanooga Track Club saw a successful end to its revamped Battle for Chattanooga race series, which ended with the recent Missionary Ridge road race.
The annual series consists of three events. Runners who complete the series receive a special medal (pictured above in the main photo). This year, 103 runners completed the series, which was sponsored by Jay Hudson Homes and Keller Williams Realty.
The series began with the Chickamauga Battlefield Marathon and events last November at the Chickamauga National Battlefield south of Chattanooga. The second event was the Chattanooga Chase in April. Finishers of the final event were treated to a picnic compliments of the CTC’s membership committee volunteers.
Fall Fitness Festival
Make plans on Sept. 7 to attend the Fleet Feet Fall Fitness Festival at Hays Farm in south Huntsville and run in the Path to Positivity 5K.
This free 5K is part of a big day of events at the “5F” festival. Among them are games, food trucks, live music and vendors. Attendees can learn more about positive health benefits, stretching, hydration, wellness and more. Free sessions from Burn Boot Camp, Breathework, Irontribe and others will be held, along with a community bike ride.

Buster Britton Triathlon
Alex Tomlinson of Huntsville completed the 39th annual Buster Britton Memorial Triathlon on Aug. 24 in Pelham.
Tomlinson 56, completed the 1,500-meter swim in 22:55, the 40K bike in 1:23:23 and 10K run in 49:28. He had transitions of 2:54 and 1:52.
Carole Addona of Huntsville (3:17:41) and Evan Moore of Huntsville (3:27:41) also completed the event, which had 112 individual finishers.
