It’s a wonderful time of the year, with the TVO Roundup filled with fun events featuring tacos, flying pigs and bigfoot in the Tennessee Valley and beyond.
The local schedule was light last weekend, with Strolling Jim and the Dan Robinson Memorial 10K/5K on tap. A few events are scheduled this weekend, including the popular Smokerise Half/10K/5K trail run in Huntsville. If you’re keen on some rooty-rocky-hilly fun, that’s the event for you.

Taco Trot 5K
GUNTERSVILLE — Alan Bocanegra won the Taco Trot 5K on April 4 in 19:57 by almost a minute.
Steven Miles of Anniston was second in 20:48, and Ken Bryant of Jacksonville was third in 21:13.
Maria Copeland of Grant won the women’s title. She finished 11th in 26:15. Maria Felix of Fort Payne was second (14th) in 27:45, and Amy Colley of Oneonta was third (16th) in 27:49.

Smoky Mountain Bigfoot 5K
TOWNSEND, Tenn. — Elliot Baldy of Maryville, Tenn., bested a field of 556 finishers in the Smoky Mountain Bigfoot 5K on April 4.
Baldy won the race in 18:45, with Randy Merrill of Maryville hot on his heels and finishing in 18:52.
Shani Cutler of Knox County won the women’s title, finishing 14th overall in 21:14.

Flying Pig Marathon
CINCINNATI — Lindsey Hamilton of Owens Crossroads and Eli Finegan of Huntsville were among the thousands who completed the Flying Pig Marathon and Half-Marathon on May 5.
Finnegan, 24, finished the marathon in 3:27:26. He was 301st out of 4,073 finishers.
Hamilton, 45, finished the half-marathon in 1:48:44, an 8:18/pm pace.

OC Marathon
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. — Lindsey Shady of Huntsville completed the HOAG OC Marathon on May 5.
Shady, 43, finished the marathon in 4:19:43, a 9:54/pm pace. She was representing the Huntsville Track Club at the annual Road Runners Club of America conference in Costa Mesa. The marathon had 2,960 finishers.

Pirate Half-Marathon
KNOXVILLE — Chris Smith of Knoxville won the Pirate half-marathon at Holston River Park on May 4.
Smith finished in 1:39:24, completing five laps on the loop course. Jeff Sutton of Greenback, Tenn., won the 10K in 1:01:53.
Moon Pie Move 10K
CHATTANOOGA — Ryan Morgan won the Moon Pie Move 10K on April 4 in 40:16 in a tight finish.
Steven LaMar of Chattanooga was second in 40:48, and Sam Rolph of Surprise, Ariz., was third in 42:59.
Shannon Fulcher of Dallas, Ga., won the women’s title. She was sixth overall in 47:32.
