TVO Roundup: Frosty Freeze 5K, Pigeon Forge Half Marathon Results

With the 47th Rocket City Marathon taking center stage over the weekend, only a few other events made our TVO Roundup.

There’s still time to find a fun holiday 5K or other run in the coming weeks. If you’re feeling spry or need to stretch the legs, check out the Recover From the Holidays 50K. It’s on Dec. 31 at John Hunt Park, with 10 loops of 3.1 miles on the grass track. It’s a low-key affair but a lot of fun.

On to the results!

Frosty Freeze 5K

DECATUR — Juan Hernandez of Elkmont took top honors at the Frosty Freeze 5K on Dec. 9 with a fine time of 20:46.

Jorge Martinez of Decatur was second in 21:09, and Conley Brannon of Decatur was right behind in third in 21:15.

Daisy Hernandez of Elkmont took the women’s title and was sixth overall at 22:02. Elizabeth Whittaker of Scottsboro was second (11th) in 25:46, and Ludy Cerda of Decatur was third (17th) in 28:08.

Pigeon Forge Half

PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. — Darren Driscoll won the Pigeon Forge Half Marathon in a time of 1:16 on Dec. 9.

Amy Reeves of Huntsville finished 116th in 2:19:12.

The field of 192 finishers included runners from the Southeast, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Ohio and several other states.
