The weekend was relatively quiet with only a few events in the area, but our TVO Roundup is packed with finishers from a few events.
Running for Africa 5K
DECATUR — Stuart Lamp and Vivian Zou claimed top honors in the inaugural Running for Africa 5K on Dec. 2 at the Jack Allen Soccer Complex.
Lamp, of Decatur, sped to a 17:41 finish to get the overall win. Stuart Ross (18:35) and Dane Ard (18:51), both of Decatur, were right behind him.
Zou, of Huntsville, finished in 22:33 to take the top women’s award. She finished ninth overall. Perla Nunez of Huntsville was second (17th) in 24:39 and claimed the Women’s Master award. Madelyn Patton of Huntsville was third (23rd) in 25:46.
The race had 69 finishers and was facilitated by River City Runners. Proceeds from the race benefitted Archangel Group International, founded by law enforcement officer Jonathan Macklin. The organization is based in Decatur but currently operates in Zambia, Africa. It was founded to assist the people in poverty of Zambia and to provide them with the following financial and physical resources: religious works, humanitarian aid, suitable housing, digging of borewells for fresh drinking water, healthcare and rescuing orphans.

Galaxy of Lights 5K
Garrett Zabala of Huntsville zipped to the win at the Galaxy of Lights 5K on Nov. 27 at the Huntsville Botanical Garden.
Zabala finished in 18:08 after leading the pack through the garden’s annual holiday lights show. Runners navigated a mostly paved path with a few areas of pebble gravel. More than 1,050 finishers ran and walked in the popular event, which requires two groups going in waves.
Reed Perry of Harvest was second in 18:28, and Josiah Berlin of Prospect, Tenn., was third in 18:31.
Emily Jones of Madison took the top women’s honor in 20:27. She was 19th overall. Molly Halter of Madison was second (21st) in 20:31, and Isabelle Allen was third (22nd) in 21:14.

Krampus Run 5K
Braden Rimes won the third annual Krampus Run 5K on Dec. 2 at the Hays Farm Greenway in Huntsville.
Rimes, 13, of Huntsville, cruised to the win in 22:34. Drew Watson, 13, of Huntsville, was second in 22:53, and Joseph Beyl, 10, of Guntersville, was third in 23:04.
Beth Raper, 48, of Muscle Shoals, won the women’s division in 23:59. She was 10th overall. Hannah Bodin, 33, of Owens Cross Roads was second (13th) in 26:13, and Colette Jones, 22, of Huntsville, was third (15th) in 27:16.
The race had 95 finishers. It started at the Hays Farm Clubhouse and continued down Haysland Road before winding back through the Hays Farm greenway.
