The 2022 NCAA Division I Cross Country South Regional was held at the John Hunt Cross Country Course in Huntsville on Friday, Nov. 11. The University of North Alabama was the host institution with assistance from the Huntsville Sports Commission and the City of Huntsville.
University of Alabama’s Victor Kiprop took the men’s 10K title with a time of 29:21.20. Yaseen Abdalla (University of Tennessee) claimed second with a time of 29:28.60, and Dylan Jacobs (University of Tennessee) and Kirami Yego (University of South Alabama) tied for third with times of 29:28.70.

The University of Florida’s Parker Valby claimed the women’s 6K with a time of 19:17.20. The University of Alabama’s Amaris Tyynismaa and Hilda Olemomoi finished second and third with times of 19:35.10 and 19:35.30 resepectively.

The Division I men’s and women’s college cross country championships usually begin around mid to late November, which marks the end of the cross country regular season.
The regular season begins in mid to late August or early September and lasts into the month of October. Conference championships commence the postseason, followed by the regionals and national championships.
Unlike other college sports championships that include several weeks of games and matches, the cross country title is decided on one day of the year and features one 10k race for the men and one 6k race for the women.
The NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Track and Field and Cross Country Committee announced Saturday the team and individual qualifiers for the 2022 NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships.
In order to be eligible to participate in the championships, teams and individuals qualified at their respective NCAA regional championship competitions.
Thirty-one teams were selected to participate in each championship. The top two, seven-person teams automatically qualified from each of the nine regions, for a total of 18 teams. Thirteen additional teams were selected at-large.
Thirty-eight individuals were selected to participate in each championship through an automatic qualifier and at-large selection process. All individual qualifiers finished in the top 25 in their regions.
Oklahoma State University will host the championships, Saturday, Nov. 19, at The Greiner Family OSU Cross Country Course located in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The women’s race will begin at 10:20 a.m. ET, followed by the men’s race at 11:10 a.m. ET.
