AUBURN — Decked out in orange and blue befitting the weekend’s theme, Josh Whitehead of Madison cruised to an easy win Sunday in the War Eagle Run Fest half-marathon.
Whitehead, 44, clipped four minutes off his second half of the run to finish in 1:11. He posted 37:45 for his first seven miles and 33:46 for the second half. Whitehead won the 2022 Rocket City Marathon, one of eight events last year, and already has a couple of top finishes this year including the Tick Ridge 25K and Dam Bridge 10K.
Troy Adkison, 18, of Vinemont, was second in 1:18. Patty Beyer, 60, of Gulf Shores, won the women’s title in 1:29. She was 16th overall.

The War Eagle Run Fest consisted of the half-marathon and a 5K, both of which started and finished inside Jordan-Hare Stadium on the 50 yard line. The front half of the half-marathon course wound through downtown before a long loop around East Glenn Avenue, East University Boulevard and East Samford Avenue. The back half wends its way through campus before returning to the stadium finish.
