Winnebago, Adventure Wagon Create Limited Edition Adventure-Ready Vans

Winnebago and Adventure Wagon have collaborated on a limited edition van that combines the craftsmanship and innovation of both companies to create the ultimate adventure vehicle.

How cool is this? For bikers, trail runners, road runners and other outdoors athletes or weekend fun-seekers, this sounds like an awesome setup. You can travel with all your gear safely secured. Bike racks and multiple bikes can be transported on the back. Sleep? No problem, after finding a good spot or campground.

The limited edition Winnebago + Adventure Wagon vans are based on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 170 chassis. The vans feature Adventure Wagon’s Modular Interior System, which provides endless possibilities for consumers to add, remove and rearrange Adventure Wagon and Winnebago components. This flexibility affords owners the ability to safely secure cargo and customize equipment racks, desks, galleys and more.

“We are excited to partner with Adventure Wagon, a brand that shares the same values of innovation and quality,” said Russ Garfin, Winnebago’s Director of Product Management. “This partnership unlocks opportunities for consumers who desire flexibility across a variety of lifestyle applications. Whether it’s family camping or gear hauling, or weekday work platform to weekend home base, the Winnebago + Adventure Wagon platform empowers our diverse customer base to make it their own.”

The build comes standard with Adventure Wagon’s popular MOAB elevator bed and Mule Bags for soft overhead storage. The MOAB bed can easily move up and down or be removed completely, while the Mule Bags offer vast overhead storage and flexibility for placement.

Built by Winnebago has numerous upgrades, including its popular WinnSleep mattress. The flexible, customizable floorplan offers modular seating options along with cooking and refrigeration components, potable water system, self-contained toilet, and a separate 120vac power supply.

The vans will be available at select Winnebago dealers in spring 2023.

“We are proud to team up with the Winnebago brand, a company with a rich history in the RV industry,” said Adventure Wagon Founder and CEO Chad Smith. “This collaboration with Winnebago brings a new vision that fills an unmet need in the RV market, one with a more flexible approach to meet everyday needs. With this partnership, we are broadening our commitment to make Adventure Wagon’s versatile platform accessible to more people with a turnkey, financeable buying experience through the Winnebago dealer network.”

What We Think

Having seen a few similar setups at trail runs and duathlons, these adventure vans are, simply put, uber-cool.

You’re self-contained. Want to leave because a storm is coming? Leave. Want to stick around a few extra days because your location is cool and you can? Stick around. Exhausted and need to pull in somewhere? Find a Walmart parking lot and catch some shut-eye. Walmart doesn’t mind; they know you’ll probably come in and buy something.

A couple of years ago at the Rockin’ Choccolocco, a friend of mine was getting prepped for the 50K in his van. It looked tidy and comfy, with a small fridge for beverages and food. Ample drawers held some of his gear. A bed allowed him to arrive the night before, sleep well after visiting with a few friends, and be ready to go on race day. Me? I was in a hotel 20 minutes away, hoping I didn’t oversleep or get lost finding my way over.

I’m sure the vans like this have some cons to go along with the pros. I suspect the bathroom is a bit cramped for us big ol’ guys and gals. Gas mileage likely isn’t super-duper, and with prices the way they are it’s a bit more hit to the budget. But you can chill out under the stars with a col’beer and a campfire. Or unhitch the bike and take off. If you also like to fish, hunt, camp, watch birds or are into photography, you’re also good to go. In the overall, the plusses likely outweigh the minuses by a longshot.
