WKND Wrap: Hot Summer Nights, Brothers for Life and Missionary Ridge Results

Jason Tibbs held off Bryana Wilson to win the inaugural Hot Summer Nights 5K Friday evening at John Hunt Park.

Tibbs, 34, of Owens Cross Roads, finished in 21:32 for the win. Wilson, 35, of Toney, was right behind, crossing the wire in 21:37.

James Duffy, 38, of Huntsville, was third in 21:46.

The race had 98 official finishers. It was the kickoff fundraiser for the annual Run Dirty race Saturday morning to kick off the high school cross country season. More than 700 area high school athletes participated. Fleet Feet Huntsville/Madison donates approximately $30,000 to local cross-country events and high school programs each year.

Brothers for Life 5K

DECATUR — Tyler Morring cruised to the win at the Brothers for Life 5K at Point Mallard Park Saturday morning.

Morring, 17, of Toney, finished in 16:38 to win by more than two minutes. Bill Solway, 16, of Moulton, was second in 18:54.

Emma James, 16, of Tuscumbia, won the women’s division in 23:20. She was 14th overall.

Derek Taylor, 44, of Moulton, won the Male Masters title in 18:55, battling Solway at the wire. Perla Nunez, 44, of Madison, won the Female Masters title, in 26:04. She was 23rd.

Matthew Hames, 45, of Hartselle, won the Ruck division in 25:30. Candace Blackwood, 32, of Trinity, took the women’s title in 30:57, in third place.

Proceeds benefit Brothers for Life, which supports local firefighters, police officers, EMS professionals and dispatchers.

Missionary Ridge

CHATTANOOGA — Jonah Adams comfortably won the 53rd annual Missionary Ridge Road Race on Bragg Reservation on Saturday.

Adams 22, of Delano, Tenn., crossed in 25:29. Rodney Stoker, 50, of Chattanooga, was second in 29:59.

Hannah Wilson, 33, of Lookout Mountain, Ga., won the women’s title and was fourth overall. She finished in 27:49.

Wil Nevin, 40, of Huntsville, was the top local finisher at 28th in 34:39.

The 4.7-mile race is put on by the Chattanooga Track Club. It takes runners through the historica Missionary Ridge neighborhood and was the finale in the Battle for Chattanooga Series.
