TVO Roundup: Big Trail Runs and Local 5K Fun

Olivia Havens of Chattanooga won the women’s division of the Wild Florida Trail Run 25K on Nov. 15 in White Springs, Fla., highlighting this week’s TVO Roundup.

Havens, 31, was 12th overall in a field of 79 and finished in 2:40:21. She won the division by more than four minutes.

In the 50k race, Kneil Place, 35, of Chattanooga, finished fourth 4:24:23.

Fiery Gizzard Run

FOSTER FALLS, Tenn. โ€” Brandon Sullivan, 43, of Signal Mountain, Tenn., finished third in the Fiery Gizzard Run marathon on Nov. 29 at Foster Falls State Park.

Sullivan finished in 4:45:33. Zac Wilson, 47, of Signal Mountain, was fourth in 5:07.

Chris Kowalski, 50, of Huntsville, was 21st in 7:12:09.

Blake Cash, 44, of Chattanooga, won the half marathon in 2:24. Issac Brinkley, 35, of Lacey’s Spring, was 17th in 2:51.

In the 13-mile Ruck division, Andrew Hildreth, 47, of Madison, was 10th in 5:37. Jeremiah Hunt, 29, of Somerville, was 11th in 5:37.

Blood Rock 100

PELHAM โ€” Jim Steele of Florence was the top TVO-area finisher in the Blood Rock 50-mile trail run at Oak Mountain State Park on Dec. 5-7.

Steele, 47, finished 22nd in 15:55:55.

Aaron Anderson, 39, of Madison, was 24th in 16:03. Brandon Joyce, 29, of Athens, was 40th in 17:45.

James Ebert, 38, of Huntsville, was fifth in the 55K in 6:33. That puts him in the Top 10 records for the second time. He finished in 5:49 in the 2024 event.

Running for Africa 5K

DECATUR โ€” James Stevenson of Mississippi won the 3rd annual Running for Africa 5K on Dec. 6 at Point Mallard Park.

Stevenson, 31, of Tupelo, finished in 19:32 for top honors.

Caitlin Viola, 34, of Detroit, Ala., was third overall and won the women’s title in 22:13.

Proceeds benefit and support Archangel Group International, a nonprofit on a mission to fight poverty and human trafficking in Africa. The group was founced by Decatur Police officer Jonathan Macklin.

Huntsville City FC 10K, 5K

Nathaniel Pierce and Luke Bogardus, both of Huntsville, took top honors in the Huntsville City FC 10K and 5K races on Dec. 7 at Joe Davis Stadium in Huntsville.

Pierce, 39, won the 10K in 33:19.

Kortney Kuhl, 31, finished fifth and won the women’s title in 43:49 at the wire in a dash against Kayleigh Terrell (43:55) and Ali Melendez (43:57).

Bogardus, 16, won the 5K in 18:05. Michael Cosgrove, 14, and Kyle Sundey, 39, tied for second in 18:38.

Avery Shivers, 16, finished seventh overall and won the women’s 5K title in 20:29.
