Area trail runners had a fine showing in multiple races at the Chief Ladiga trail endurance events April 11, including several record finishes.
Steven Carr, 59, of Huntsville turned in a fine performance in the 100-miler, finishing fifth overall. He finished in 18:04:56. Carr is an endurance veteran, with multiple finishes in the Little Dog’s Backyard Ultra, Capital Backyard Ultra and others. He completed Western States 100 in 2024, among other 100s and ultras.
The 100-miler starts and ends in Jacksonville, with the 50-mile turnaround in Rockmart, Ga. It has about 3,500 feet of elevation gain/loss and follows the Chief Ladiga Trail.
James Ebert, Bailey Tarvin and Kamryn McGovern nabbed three of the top 10 spots in the 50-mile race. Ebert, 38, of Huntsville, finished in 7:10:58, second best on the records list, and was second overall. Tarvin, 30, of Boaz, was third, in 7:56:28, and is fourth on the records list. McGovern 26, of Huntsville, was sixth in 9:43:36. Casey Corbett, 38, of Florence, was 14th in 11:14:08.
In the 50K, Jacob Flaugher, 26, of Huntsville, was third overall in 4:22:44 and second in the men’s division. Erica Speegle, 45, of Birmingham, won the race in 3:53:32. That’s the second-best time in the women’s Top 10 records, but better than the men’s record set three years ago.
In the half-marathon, Elijah Walker, 29, of Huntsville, finished in 2:26:51. Stephanie Carr, 57, of Huntsville, crossed in 2:42:32.
