GUNTERSVILLE — Quinn McCurry of Birmingham took top honors in the Olympic division by more than two minutes at the Mountain Lakes Triathlon on July 25.
McCurry, 16, finished in 2:20:14 to nab gold. He combined a swim of 16:35, bike of 1:24:14 and run of 37:13 with transitions of 1:18 and :51.
Kirsten Sass, 47, of McKenzie, Tenn., was second in 2:22:12, and Robert Corey, 31, of Birmingham, was third in 2:22:21.
AlexAllen, 29, of Madison, was the top local finisher. He was 19th, crossing in 2:51:25.
In the Sprint tri, Baden Brown, 22, of Nashville, won in 1:13:14.
Sprint athletes had a 600 yard swim, 16-mile ride and 5K run. Olympic athletes had a 1,200-yard swim, 32-mile ride and 10K run.

Hotter ‘n Hell
PELHAM — Gabe Henneberger of Huntsville finished second in the Hotter ‘n Hell 18-mile trail run July 25 at Oak Mountain State Park.
Henneberger, 25, took the silver in 3:22:44. Eric Parker, 52, of Prattville, won the race in 3:05.
Phil Tranqui, 53, of Athens, was 14th, in 3:56:25.

Scenic City Scorcher
CHATTANOOGA — Evan Simpson of Chattanooga won the Scenic City Scorcher 2-mile race on July 18.
Simpson, 18, finished in 10:08:52 in a tight one at the wire. Max Redlin, 18, of Hixon, was second in 10:12:66.
This was the RRCA Tennessee 2-mile championship and hosted by the Chattanooga Track Club.

W.C. Handy 5K
FLORENCE — Luca Brekke of Florence won the W.C. Handy Festival “DaDoo Ron Run” 5K on July 18.
Brekke, 16, nabbed the easy win in 18:41:44. Carsen Borden, 16, of Florence, was second in 19:02:21.
Kimberley Luna, 23, of Russellville, won the women’s division in 21:25. She was11th overall.
