JUNE
June 6: 18th annual Rainsville Freedom Run 10K and 5K, 8 a.m. at the DeKalb County Schools Coliseum in Rainsville. More than $10,000 in prize money and a strong, competitive field. Register here
June 6: Heel & Crank Duathlon, Adtran Tower at Cummings Research Park in Huntsville, transition opens 6 a.m. and races begin at 7 a.m. Race time has been moved ahead an hour to account for the heat. Register here
June 6: Eurocross 5K, 8 a.m. at the UAH campus on John Wright Drive. Multiple loops of a 1K grass and dirt course with creek crossings (so, you’ll get wet and dirty). Register here

June 13: We Run, We Finish 5K, 8 a.m. at the John Hunt Running Park in Huntsville, hosted by the Rocket City Runners run club. All levels welcome to come run, jog, ruck and walk. Register here

July 4: Firecracker 5K and 1-mile fun run, starting at 7 a.m. at Morningside Baptist Church in south Huntsville. Runners start/finish at the church after hitting the flat, uber-fast Aldridge Creek Greenway. Certified course. Childcare provided by the church, along with homemade post-race refreshments. July 4: Red, White & Zoom Rocket Pop 5K, 7 a.m. in Athens on the Swan Creek Greenway. New event, certified course, out-back route starting at the Athens Sportsplex by the swimming pool. Register here

Sept. 7: Race for Justice 10K, 5K and kids’ fun run, 7 a.m. at Wicks Family Field (the old Joe Davis Stadium) on Leeman Ferry. Flat, certified course great for PR or state age record. Save money by doing both races. Proceeds benefit the local Volunteer Lawyers Program to help provide civil legal services to low-income individuals in Madison County. Register here
Sept. 11: Swing Through 5K, 6:30 p.m. at Calhoun Community College in Tanner. Evening event. Course goes through and around campus, is flat as a sheet of plywood and has solid post-race goodies. Proceeds benefit the CCC Student Physical Therapist Assistant Fund. Register here

Sept. 13: Boston or Bust marathon and half-marathon, 6 a.m. on Aldridge Creek Greenway and along the Tennessee River at Ditto Landing. This is a last-chance qualifier for the 2027 Boston Marathon, and attracts a solid field. Course is flat, fast and perfect for getting the “BQ” time so you can head to Beantown next spring. Sept. 20: Conquer the Cave 5K, first wave at 9 a.m. at Cathedral Caverns State Park in Woodville, Alabama. Run most of this rolling-hilly 5K outside and then dive into the iconic Cathedral Caverns. Finish the last half mile on a lighted walkway as you marvel at massive stalactites, stalagmites and water features. Incredibly cool event. Register here
Sept. 26: Fleet Feet Fall Fitness Festival half-marathon and 5K, 8 a.m. at Hays Park in south Huntsville. More than 40 vendors, flat course and more. Register here

EVERY SATURDAY
Hays Farm parkrun is a weekly free and timed 5K that starts at 7:30 a.m. at Hays Farm, 1117 Haysland Road SW. Run, jog or walk. Maybe even saunter. It’s not a race, although, yes, people run fast. It’s just a good event. parkrun is free and available internationally. Participants must register here on the parkrun page and then are set to join any free parkrun event. Bring your scannable parkrun barcode to get your finish time.
