Borreggine Wins Rim to River 100 With Top-10 Time

Dominic Borreggine of Huntsville won the 4th annual Rim to River 100 ultra last Saturday with a time that ranks among the best in the event’s history.

Borreggine, 38, finished in 18 hours, 29 minutes, 18 seconds. That’s eighth on the Rim to River list for Top 10 men’s times. He won by more than 31 minutes, with runner-up Mark Marzen of Golden, Col., finishing in 19:02.

Borreggine was one of four Huntsville runners who completed the Rim to River 100. The event is the only 100-mile trail race in West Virginia. It takes runners through the New River Gorge National Park. It’s an out-and-back course of winding single track and rail-to-trail, with multiple trips from the Gorge rim down to the New River. It has 12,100 feet of ascent and descent, with an elevation range of 823-2,015 feet.

TVO could not reach Borreggine for comment. He posted the following on Facebook:

“I want to send a very special thank you to everyone involved with Rim To River. The race directors, volunteers, the photographers, all runners, pacers, crew members, and especially the aid station personnel. I am constantly blown away by aid stations and Rim To River’s went above and beyond. You all were the kindest, funniest, and most helpful people I have ever encountered. Each of you made a very special day even better.

“I am forever grateful, thank you.”

Rocket City Finishers

Lindsey Shady, 43, of Huntsville, finished the race in 26:39:12. Christy Scott, 51, of Owens Cross Roads, crossed the finish line in 29:17:17 despite some nasty hip flexor issues. Shady and Scott trained together for months. Family and friends aided with pacing and crewing in West Virginia.

Martin Schneekloth, 53, of Huntsville, finished in in 31:07. Stepping on a nail a couple of months ago disrupted his training routine. Schneekloth has had a solid year, though, with finishes in the Cocodona 250 and Southern States 200.

The Rim to River 100 field had 181 finishers, the most ever for the race, from about two dozen states including Alaska.
