RunningLane Roundup: Pierce, Pratte, Tarvin Among Winners

It’s been a busy few weeks for the RunningLane crew, with a handful of events of various distances from the beach to the mountains.

Actually, it’s been a busy few months considering the winter Wild Thangs events, holidays and opening of the Running Lane store last autumn. That’s a lot going on! Among the recent events was the Pill Hill 10K, a fun jaunt with hills and hills and hills, and several others coming up including the Bridge Street Town Centre Half Marathon and 5K in April.

We’ve had a few busy months here, too, and figured a roundup would be a good way to catch up on the RL event winners.

Eagle Ridge 50K +

Bailey Tarvin of Boaz won the Eagle Ridge 50K at Guntersville State Park on Feb. 8.

Tarvin, 28, completed the challenging course in 5:15:26. Kari Weaver of Harvest won the women’s title and was seventh overall. She finished in 7:26:26.

Runners make two loops of the course, which includes a tough rocky section about 13ish miles in and several testy hills.

Beau Beard of Chelsea won the half-marathon in a fine time of 1:46:57. That put him 10th on the T10 records list. Nicole Dieckow of Anniston was seventh in 2:05 and won the women’s title. Her time is fifth-best on the T10 records list.

Alan Lara Bocanegra of Albertville won the 5K in 27:33, fourth best in event history. Lauren Estes of Cullman won the women’s division and was 9th overall, in 36:27.

We Run This Beach

Nathaniel Pierce of Huntsville zipped to the win in the We Run This Beach marathon on Feb. 23 in Gulf Shores.

Pierce finished in 2:46:21, winning by more than two minutes over Logan Roberts of Pensacola.

Christy Huffstutler of Helena was fourth and won the women’s division, finishing in 3:06:31.

The marathon was the capper to a weekend of events including a 5K, 10K and half-marathon. The weekend has grown since its first events in 2022. This year’s marathon field had 97 finishers from more than 20 states including Colorado, Rhode Island, Texas and Utah, along with Vancouver, B.C. It is a Boston Marathon qualifying event.

Race to the Cave

Joseph Pratte of Portsmouth, N.H., won the Race to the Cave half-marathon on March 2 in Grant at Cathedral Caverns State Park.

Pratte finished in 1:36 to get the win by more than two minutes. Aden St. Charles of Chattanooga was second, in 1:39, and won the women’s division.

Runners finish the course by entering the gorgeous Cathedral Caverns and dashing to the back on the lighted path. The path takes visitors through stunning rooms of stalactites, stalagmites and water features. The race, and others that RunningLane puts on at the state park, are incredibly popular. The half-marathon had 205 finishers from more than two dozen states including New Mexico, Nevada, California, Washington, Minnesota, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Texas.

Thomas Roberts won the 10K in 47:16, Kortney Kuhl winning the women’s division in 49:44. She was fifth overall.

Jacob Fast won the 5K in 20:56 and Michelle Yavalow won the women’s title in 22:28. She was 10th overall.
