TVO Roundup: 100 Finishers, Locomotion, Cornbread Champs and the Dan Robinson Challenge

What a fantastic weekend for the crew of studs making this week’s TVO Roundup, which includes a host of events far and wide.

We won’t dilly-dally too long but have a few items of note to highlight first:

— If you’re pining for something to do this weekend, sign up here now for the 9th annual Dan Robinson Memorial 10K or 5K in Grant. It’s hosted by the Grant Playground and Recreation Association. Proceeds benefit the incredibly fantastic, inclusive Kidtopia playground that is an awesome plus for a small town. If you’re keen on events that benefit a public good, and not just a bank account, this is one to consider. It’s a scenic course with rolling hills so take a water bottle.

— If you’re hankerin’ for something more, registration is open for the Pinhoti 100 in November. This iconic point-to-point 100-miler will test physical and mental abilities. It is a Western States qualifier. You’ll start in Heflin, go over Mount Cheaha and finish at Lake Howard on the Sylaward Trail northeast-ish of Sylacauga. See the deets here.

— Registrations for the Rocket City Marathon and other RCM Weekend races are ticking along nicely. The marathon is 42 percent sold, while the half is 31 percent and the 10K-5K is at 27 percent. Runners from more than two dozen states already are registered, many of them repeat visitors.

The event is Dec. 12-14, put on by Huntsville Track Club and sponsored by the Huntsville Sports Commission, among others. The weekend pumps more than $1 million into the city’s economy via food, lodging and associated travel expenditures.
