Summer is kicking off with a bang, as the TVO Roundup shows results from a host of cool events throughout the Southeast.
Mother Nature has turned off her HVAC unit, ostensibly to save money to buy eggs and plants for the garden. Be sure to take care of yourself and stay hydrated. Last Saturday’s yard work and run was a zapper, leading to thigh cramps. As the lovely Vivian Ward said to those snooty bishes in Pretty Woman, “Big mistake! Big. Huge.” Be sure to stay on top of the electrolytes.
A couple of notes:
— The 45th Cotton Row Run is Memorial Day, and if you’re not registered yet there’s still time. This iconic race is fantastic, with a flat start, fun little hill at midway and downhill-flat to the finish. Plus, lots of cheers, music and more. If you’re feeling spunky, do the 10K, 5K and 1-mile. Oh, I couldn’t do that! Why not? Yes, you can. Get signed up now because there’s no race day registration.
— The Huntsville Track Club’s summer runs begin on June 3 at John Hunt Park, adding to the cornucopia of fun events in the area. From the fun runs at Fleet Feet and RunningLane to the Huntsville Pub Run on Wednesday, Rise ‘n Shine on Sunday morning, H.A.T.E.R.S. and others, there’s something for everyone. Check out the chart at the bottom of the TVO Calendar for the full schedule.
— The grueling, wildly tough 0.12-mile Rocket City Microthon returns Aug. 17 on Butler Green at Yellowhammer Brewing and Campus 805. Bring the kids for some games, music and fun. There will be goodies for the adults, too. The event is a fundraiser for Merrimack Hall. Learn more here and start your 12-ounce curls training regimen soon.
