About the Club

The Chattanooga Track Club has its roots in the early 1960s, when a small group of men gathered to run in Chickamauga Park. These weekend runs spawned an idea by Joe McGinness to create a club.

Ten men met at at the local YMCA in 1970 to decide and form club bylaws and structure. Officers began serving in 1971 and a race committee was tasked with creating, organizing and putting on events. From that, the Chattanooga Half Marathon, Missionary Ridge, Heart Run, Rock City Road Race and other events were formed. Since then the club has grown and evolved.
