Dana Overton and Andrew Bustos put some fire into the Monte Sano State Park trails to win the Frozen Goat 30K Saturday morning.
The veteran trail runners, both of Huntsville, claimed the year’s opening local event with fine times to top the 72-runner field. Running Lane Events put on the event. Running Lane’s next event is Eagle Ridge in February at Guntersville State Park.
Many runners use the Frozen Goat events as a warmup for the 30th Mountain Mist 50K on Jan. 27. Among the trails in both are Sinks, Goat, Mist, McKay Rest Shelter and Death Trail. Mountain Mist has many more, making it one of the toughest and best-known ultras in the country.
