Paul and Cindy Moeller were presented the Norman Harris Award for Outstanding Achievement by the Huntsville Track Club at its annual awards banquet Tuesday night.
The Moellers were among 11 people along with Monte Sano State Park and Yellowhammer Brewing tapped for the club’s top honors. The club was founded in 1971. A variety of awards have been given since 1975.
The Norman Harris Award is given to a person or persons “to recognize extraordinary volunteerism in regard to not only the HTC, but also running in general.”

Perla Nuñez, Media Award, “presented when the HTC Executive Board felt there was a member of the media, media organization, or other media related individual making a dedicated effort and worthy contribution to the sport of running and the ideals which the club strives to achieve.”
James Hurley, Admiration Award, “a person be admired by a significant segment of the club membership.”
Tommy Morris, Tinsley Dedication Award, “traditionally awarded to a club member, who for many years has silently and unassumingly contributed considerable time, effort and talent to our club that has been a significant benefit to the members.”
Monte Sano State Park, Service Award, “to a club member, civic organization or supporter for outstanding service contributions to the club and sport over an extended number of years.”
Yellowhammer Brewing, Appreciation Award, “made to an individual, company, municipal or civic organization for outstanding contributions to the club and sport over an extended number of years. The Appreciation Award is most often presented to our major race sponsors or product sponsors for contributions which save the HTC money allowing us to conduct a first class race and pass the savings on to those who enter our events.”
Graham Gallemore, RRCA Browning Ross Spirit of the RRCA Award Nominee, “honors an individual who is an unsung hero in their club.”
Carl Smith, RRCA Outstanding Volunteer Award Nominee, “given to recognize the outstanding volunteer (excluding the president) of a local club. A general selection criterion includes someone that is a dedicated volunteer to the local running club and someone that stands out among the other volunteers in the club.” (This award is formerly known as the Rod Steele Memorial Award.) Smith received the club’s honorary lifetime member award in 2023.
Tony Mastando, Tom Bolt President’s Award, “to allow the President to recognize a person, group, or organization that has made a significant contribution to the Club or proved especially helpful in the conduct of club business. The President selects the recipient for the award without restriction, which includes consideration of the board members.
James Ebert, Outstanding Male Performance, winner of multiple trail runs in 2024 including the inaugural Southern States 200, Georgia Jewel 100, Hotter Than Hell and others.
Emma Hardman, Outstanding Female Performance, winner of multiple events in 2024 including several with record performances including the Monte Sano 15K and UAH Spring 8K, along with a second-place finish in the Cotton Row Run 10K.
Eric Moore, Outstanding HTC High School Cross Country Runner Award — Male, won the 1600m Class 7A state championship at Huntsville High School, which won the team title. Moore is a two-time winner of the award.
Rose Betts, Outstanding HTC High School Cross Country Runner Award — Female, among numerous honors at Brewer High School, Betts dominated in winning the Class 5A state title in 17:54.60. That was just two seconds off her personal record set a week earlier in the state sectional meet. Betts opened the 2024 season with a win at the 14th annual Pepsi Challenge to take top honors in the AHSAA state spotlight.
