Joe Wheeler State Park Campground Reopens in Alabama

Joe Wheeler State Park campgrounds have reopened after more than two years of cleanup and extensive renovations following a devastating tornado that raked North Alabama in December 2019.

Joe Wheeler State Park is one of the state’s most popular resort parks and campgrounds. Alabama’s parks system relies heavily on revenue from the resort state parks, which also include Guntersville State Park, Desoto State Park near Fort Payne, Cheaha State Park south of Anniston, Lakepoint State Park in Eufaula, Gulf State Park in Gulf Shores. Along with hotel-style lodging and cabins, the camping areas at these and other parks in the state system are wonderful attractions for visitors with RVs, campers and tents.
