FORT PAYNE — Bailey Tarvin of Huntsville sizzled on the Lost Falls 50K course and won by more than 13 minutes Saturday morning at Desoto State Park.
Tarvin, 28, finished in 4:48:03 to take top honors. His time is fourth-best in the four-year history of the Lost Falls event, which winds through the state park. Runners in the 50K, half marathon and 10K hit the same trails, which are lovely this time of year, before the 50K and half runners split away. The latter then again split off for the return to the finish while the 50K field heads down into the Little River canyon and back up.
Brian Matochik, 46, of Collierville, Tenn., was second in 5:03 and Seth Gordon, 32, of Cedar Bluff, was third in 5:29.
Kalina Emaus, 26, of Omaha, Neb., won the women’s title in 6:22. She was 13th overall. Kendall Gordon, 29, of Cedar Bluff, was second (15th) in 6:28 and Gabriela Martines, 28, of Huntsville, was third (17th) in 6:53.
The event saw 33 runners finish the 50K, about the same number as last year.

The races are put on by Running Lane Events and based at Desoto State Park. Conditions were great for the races, although it can get chippy sometimes at the park in late winter. The trails wind through mixed forests, with several rock formations, waterfalls and other great scenery.
