Tyson Jouglet of Huntsville continued his strong start to 2022 with a win in the McKay Hollow Madness 25K on March 26 at Monte Sano State Park.
Jouglet, 34, was among the top 10 in the Mountain Mist 50K in January and won the new Huntsville Grand Slam. He had impressive finishes in the Mist, Recover from the Holidays 50K, Dizzy 50s and Rocket City Marathon. All those came less than a year after surgery to remove a benign brain tumor.
Jouglet crused to the McKay Hollow Madness win with a convincing time of 2:24:23. Andy Ladner of Owens Cross Roads was second in 2:31:21. Mark Porter of Colorado Springs, Col., was third in 2:32:33.
Katie Maehlmann of Madison was the first female (12th overall) in a solid time of 3:03:12.

Rain a couple of days prior to the event turned portions of the course into a slog. Everyone had to ascend Death Trail to the finish line this year. That’s a change from prior events when only the 25K runners could enjoy that experience after making it through McKay Hollow.
The 25K had 68 finishers and the 12K had 66 finishers. The event usually is held in March or April at Monte Sano State Park in Huntsville.
