Mount to Coast debuts the H1, a hybrid road-to-trail model which aims to challenge industry standards for longevity, sustainability and durability.
The brand’s new midsole, CircleCELL, earned an ISPO Award specifically for exceptional durability during long runs, excellent lightweight and energy return, and its unique approach to sustainability. Mount to Coast is the first performance shoe brand to specialize in ultra running and long-distance pursuits.
“The technology in the H1 represents a new promise to runners – sustainability doesn’t have to come at the cost of performance. A bio-based product can support longer mileage with greater comfort,” said Mount to Coast’s founder and designer, Yeti Zhang. “To create the combination of durability and eco-friendly construction, we looked beyond the available technology in our industry. We partnered with BASF, leveraging decades of research and innovation. The result, CircleCELL, demands more from the shoe market by proving science can serve both runners and our planet.
What is CircleCELL?
H1 will utilize CircleCELL, the first high performance midsole material to be made of 100 percent renewable feedstock, including recycled organic waste.
The brand’s new foundation uses roughly 20 pounds (9 kilograms) of combined organic waste and residual biomass to create the midsoles. These boast a 90 percent increase in longevity when compared to PEBA-made shoes. The proprietary material is proven to outperform other available midsole materials in density and rebound.
In one instance, ultrarunner and race director Jamil Coury ran more than 600 miles in one pair of H1’s in a single effort, winning a lifetime supply of free burritos in the process.
The hybrid model employs several key elements for all-terrain use:
- Dual-zone Upper Construction: The jacquard top portion is engineered for adaptive fit and comfort, while the lower material uses high-performance woven fabric reinforced with Kevlar aramid fibers for exceptional durability.
- VersaGrip: Our proprietary outsole technology delivers exceptional grip and durability across all terrains with 2mm lugs.
- TUNEDFIT Dual Lacing System: Our signature lacing system offers a customizable fit for the forefoot and midfoot.

The H1 (MSRP $180) is available on mounttocoast.com in two colorways: White Sands, a primarily white shoe with blue hints, and Joshua Tree, a two-toned chocolate brown and light tan combination.
