Ryan Manning and Kelsey Lane smoked the Monte Sano State Park trails Saturday morning in the 7th annual Skunk Ape 10-mile trail run.
Manning, 37, of Madison, claimed top honors with his sizzling time of 1:24:24, winning by more than two minutes. He was third in the Jackalope 8-miler and Big Foot 10K, both part of the Wild Thangs summer series, and the Smoke Rise 10K in May.
Lane, 32, of Huntsville, grabbed the gold in the women’s division with her time of 1:36:53. She was 13th overall. Lane finished second in the Wild Thangs opener, the Big Foot 10K, in June, and has several other top finishes in regional events.
Jacob Wierenga and Philip Traylor battled for second and third on Saturday, with Wierenga nabbing silver by a few steps. He crossed the line in 1:26:53, with Traylor right behind in 1:26:55. Christian Schrandt was in hot pursuit, too, finishing fourth in 1:27:08.
Gibson Kelly was second in the women’s division, finishing 15th in 1:40:21. Mallory Schmidt was third (17th) in 1:41:15.
The 10-mile field had 116 finishers. Running Lane Events put on the race, which ended at the state park overlook.

Skunk Ape 5-Mile
Ryan Keeton and Ella Carter were top finishers in the Skunk Ape 5-mile trail run.
Keeton smoked the field, finishing in a zippy 35:30 to win by more than 7 minutes. Carter finished 17th overall, crossing in 49:43.
The 5-mile field had 231 finishers.
