Bailey Tarvin of Albertville cruised to an easy title in the Eagle Ridge 50K at Guntersville State Park on Feb. 12 in north Alabama.
Tarvin, 25, (pictured above) finished in 5:16:44, well ahead of the 5:41:48 posted by 32-year-old runner-up Justin Quackenbush of Madison. In third was Martin Schneekloth, 50, of Huntsville, who finished in 5:59:42. Those three were the only runners to cross in less than six hours. Hannah Joy Lee, 23, of Pleasantville, Tenn., was 9th overall and first female in 6:56:44. She was the final runner coming in at less than seven hours.
Conditions were dry and comfortably warm with temperatures in the 50s, normal for the monthly average. But humidity percentages in the 60s did a number on a few runners. Guntersville State Park’s rooty-rocky trails and hilly terrain also provides a stiff challenge.
Eagle Ridge Half, 5K
In the Eagle Ridge Half Marathon, 38-year-old Beau Beard of Sterrett, Ala., took first place in a fine time of 1:55:27. Ray Thompson, 31, of Guntersville, was second in 2:01:16 and Charlie Lehr, 11, of Huntsville, was third in 2:03:30. Youth carried on as Chancellor Brady, 17, of Brownsboro (2:06:15) and Anthony Kosinski, 18, of Madison (2:08:48) completed the top five in the half.
Maggy Perez of Albertville was the first female, crossing 17th overall in 2:30:05.

The 5K is a fun, quick romp downhill from the state park lodge and back up to the finish. James Hyche, 15, of Arab, crossed the line in 29:06 for the win. Trevor Bowen, 30, of Albertville, couldn’t clip him and finished second in 29:17. Dylan Glass, 29, of Gurley, was third in 29:56.
Meredith Parks, 23, of Madison, was the first female, finishing sixth overall in a time of 33:43.
