Dominick Borreggine of Huntsville finished second in the Rim to River 100-miler, which cinched his 2025 New River Gorge Trifecta title for best cumulative finish.
Borreggine, 39, originally is from the Pittsburgh area. He moved to Huntsville in 2023 as a recruiter for the Army Recruiting Command at Redstone Arsenal.
Logan Kirby of West Virginia set a record in his Rim To River 100 win, finishing in 14:49:59. Borreggine was next in 16:50:28. That time is sixth-best in the event Top 10. The event was Oct. 28 at New River Gorge, W. Va., and saw five men and six women post Top 10 finishes.
Borreggine’s three finishes included a 4:26:51 in the Cabin Fever 50K, 11:40:44 in the Falling Water 100K and 16:50:28 in the RTR 100. His total of 32:58:03 was about 38 minutes ahead of his closest finisher. It was his first trifecta crown.
Mamba 100
MEMPHIS — Diana Cioppi of Hampton Cove was the top area finisher at the Mamba 100-mile endurance run on Nov. 7-8.
Cioppi, 55, finished in 27:13:44 and was 47th. Tina Hicks, 56, of Huntsville, finished 65th in 28:20:29.
The event includes a 100K, 50K and 25K, as well. Fields in each are heavy with runners from west Tennessee, northwest Mississippi and east Arkansas.

In the Heat of The Night
JACKSONVILLE — Justin Smith of Huntsvile and Michael Oliver of Guntersville were the top area finishers in the fourth annual In the Heat of the Night 100K and 50K endurance runs.
Smith, 30, finished sixth overall in the 100K in 14:43:32. Lindsey Shady, 44, of Huntsville, finished 10th overall in 15:46:29. That time puts Shady eighth on the women’s Top 10 records list, right behind her 2024 time of 14:53:10.
In the 50K event, Oliver, 41, finished in 6:15:14 and was 18th overall. Elizabeth Whitaker, 50, was 41st in 7:37:07. Brennan Oliver, 43, of New Hope, was 45th in 8:26:22.
The nighttime races are held the first weekend in August and begin at 6 p.m. at Chocolocco WMA south of Jacksonville. The course is a 25K, so two laps are required for the 50K and four for the 100K.

Javelina Jundred
McDOWELL, Ariz. — David Hager of Chattanooga finished 36th in the Javelina Jundred 100-mile endurance event on Oct. 25.
Hager, 36, finished in 17:36:31.

Pinhoti 100
SYLACAUGA — Jake Russell of Mississippi won the 18th annual Pinhoti 100-Mile endurance run on Nov. 1.
Russell, 27, finished in 19:40:56, more than 11 minutes ahead of runner-up Peter Kazery, 34, of Mississippi, who crossed in 19:51:17.
Calia Coyne, 26, of Birmingham, battled to the wire with Nellie Fox, 37, of Virginia, for the women’s title. Coyne won, finishing sixth in 21:43:17, while Fox was steps behind in 21:44:06.
Burt Lavender, 45, of Hokes Bluff was ninth in 21:57:46.
The race had 134 official finishers. Runners started in Heflin and followed the Pinhoti Trail south to Sylacauga. The 2025 Pinhoti is a Western States Qualifier for 2026, and the 2026 Pinhoti is a qualifier for Western States 2027.

Tunnel Hill
VIENNA, Ill. — Ian McGee of Owens Cross Roads knocked off the Tunnel Hill 100-miler and Brad Nelson of Florence completed the 50-mile event on Nov. 8 at Vienna City Park.
McGee, 33, finished in 20:29:02 and 2as 39th overall. Nelson, 46, finished the 50-miler in 8:07:47. He was 22nd overall.
Jennifer Uyeshiro, 46, of Huntsville completed the 100K in 17:48:14. She was 68th.

JFK 50-Mile
BOONSBORO, Md. — Timothy Edgerton of Madison completed the 63rd annual JFK 50-miler on Nov. 22.
Edgerton, 35, finished in 10:50:00.
The iconic event had more than 1,100 finishers. Hans Troyer of Georgia won in 5:24:10.
