Tina Hicks of Owens Cross Roads was among the top finishers at the sixth annual Fort Frenzy Ultra Festival multi-hour event on Aug. 16.
Hicks, 56, finished seventh in the 12-hour event with 42.8 miles. Runners could choose between 24-, 12-, 6- and 3-hour options, or a 6-hour ruck.
Runners have a 3.65-mile loop with about 500 feet of elevation per loop. The trail goes around Tellico Lake and is based in Vornore, Tenn.
Notable in the 12-hour field was the finish of Michael Montgomery, 78, of Franklin, Tenn. Montgomery completed his 400th ultramarathon with 32.85 miles. His prior ultra finish was the 50K at In the Heat of the Night near Anniston on Aug. 9. Montgomery ran marathons and a friend suggested he give ultras a try, and decades later he notched his milestone finish.

Monte Sano 15K + RRCA
Registration is open for the Fleet Feet Monte Sano 15K, which is this year’s Road Runners Club of America state championship.
The event is Oct. 11 with runners hitting the Monte Sano neighborhood streets for the certified 9-mile route. State championship awards will be given in multiple categories.
Josh Whitehead and Emma Hardman won the 2024 event, with both setting state age records. Paul Baswell, 75, of Loxley, and Kathy Harper, 73, of Athens, also set age records.
Registration is open. The race is facilitated by the Huntsville Track Club.
Tennessee Titans 5K
William Summers of Scottsboro was the top local finisher in the Tennessee Titans Foundation 5K on XXXX in downtown Nashville.
Summers finished in 21:20 and was 27th overall. Runners finished the event in Nissan Stadium, home of the Titans, on the 50 yard line.
Other local finishers in the top 100 included Israel Velazquez of Huntsville (33rd, 21:46), James Hardin of Hartselle (47th, 22:13), Jase Couch of Owens Cross Roads (95th, 24:13) and Jarvee Lyles of Harvest (99th, 24:19).
The race had 1,827 official finishers. The Tennessee Titans Foundation supports the ONE Community initiative. It strives to support communities in Opportunity, Neighborhoods and Education.

Leadville 100
Lea Mulligan of Chattanooga was the top local finisher in the Leadville 100 ultra held Aug. 16 in Leadville, Col.
Mulligan, 26, finished ninth overall in 20:39:04, a pace of 12:23 minutes per mile. She was third in the women’s division and first in her age group.
The annual race is considered to be the grandaddy of trail ultras. It began in 1983 with 45 runners and includes two climbs of the 12,500-foot Hope Pass. Leadville is one of the most challenging events due to the elevation and terrain. This year’s event had 383 official finishers.
