Goose Pond Fall Classic
Matt Fletcher of Madison won the Goose Pond Fall Classic 5k and William Summers of Stevenson won the inaugural 10K race in 44:15:02 at Goose Pond Colony on Sept. 23.
The 5K event was staged in 2022, with runners departing from the ampitheatre and doing an out-and-back on the road and walking path. This year, the 10K was added and runners did two loops, finishing at the ampitheatre. Runners found comfortable temperatures and low humidity on the fun course. The 10K had 23 runners and 5K had 21.
Arturo Ramos-Pascual of Albertville was second in the 10K in 44:52. Vivian Zou of Huntsville won the women’s division in 49:13 and was sixth overall. Stacey Glover of Athens was second (10th) in 58:29.

The race is one of the most popular in the area, drawing runners from multiple states in the Southeast. This year’s event saw 850 finishers. Running Lane Events sent them out in five staggered waves. Runners begin outside the park and finish in the cavern, one of the coolest attractions with incredible underground formations and history.
The annual Cathedral Caverns 15K-5K trail run is coming soon and also will have a large field. Runners do the majority of the event on the trails, with a nifty hill climb, before popping out to the road. The final approach to the cave is on the road, with the last mile(ish) in the cavern.
