The event had 1,725 official finishers, including from Hawai’i, Alaska, Georgia, Texas, Florida and California. The event started after the small town’s paper mill shut down in 2008 as a way to raise money. It grew from there into an annual event today attracting more than 2,000 runners for the marathon and half-marathon. Runners do two loops and have a 5 1/2-hour cutoff.
The Plains crossed the finish line in 3:14:58. They organize the weekly Wednesday evening Huntsville Pub Run and Sunday morning Rise & Shine Run.
