Happy post-holiday vibes to all you TVO Roundup readers who, like us, are back at work or possibly are off toodling around on a fun summer vacation.
The July 4th week was pretty fun, with the annual Freedom 5K and Independence Mile on the holiday morning. A lot of runners enjoyed the quiet streets and fun! And then on Saturday, the annual Jackalope Wild Thangs trail run at Monte Sano State Park drew a good field for the 8- and 4-mile events.
Also, with a major notch in his belt, Steven Carr of Huntsville completed the Western States Endurance Run in California. The 100-miler goes from Olympic Valley to Auburn. Very cool accomplishment!
As usual, a few other events were taking place elsewhere that made this week’s TVO Roundup:
Silverton 50K
In Colorado, Mandy Leonardi of Cullman and Martin Schneekloth of Huntsville completed the scenic Silverton 50K on July 6.
Leonardi finished in 7:09:56, good for 112th in the field of 218. Schneekloth crossed in 7:46:34, adding another finish to his busy year that included the Cocodona 250 and Southern States 200.

Freedom 5K
In Florence, Isiaah Krieger of Lexington won the Freedom 5K in 16:45 with a close finish down the stretch.
Caleb Price of Florence was hot on his heels, coming in second at 16:51. Blake Graham of Moulton was right behind, too, at 16:52.
Sophia Gentile of Florence won the women’s title in 20:27, finishing sixth overall. Cadence Rivera of Haleyville was second (16th) in 23:33, and Tessa Atkins of Florence was third (23rd) in 25:36.
The July 6 race field had 97 finishers.

Heart of the South
Scott Swafford of Signal Mountain, Tenn., was among the 17 finishers of the Last Annual Heart of the South journey run that took place June 13-23.
Swafford finished 13th in 9 days, 17 hours, 46 minutes.
Of the starting field of 54 runners, 37 did not finish. The event began in Destin, Fla., and ended in Castle Rock, Ga., a distance of 384 miles. The route crossed the Florida Panhandle into southeast Alabama and continued northward through Wetumpka before veering slightly northeast. They eventually went up and over Sand Mountain, Ider, Flat Rock and other cities toward Castle Rock, which is south-ish of Chattanooga.
Addison Hendricks of Pensacola was the first to reach Castle Rock, in 6 days, 6 hours, 25 minutes.
