Emily Crispi posted the fourth-best women’s finish in seven years of the Wild Thangs Big Foot 10K trail run Saturday morning at Monte Sano State Park.
Crispi, of Huntsville, finished sixth in 52:47 to win the women’s title and throw her name on the record list. She was just 25 seconds off the third-best time, set in 2018 by Kayla Roberts in the inaugural event. Kelsey Lane of Huntsville was second (10th) in 54:34, which was good for 10th in the record list.
Philip Traylor, also of Huntsville, took overall honors with a zippy time of 47:54. Jacob Wierenga, 14, of Huntsville, was second in 48:15.
The field had 182 finishers from 10 states including Hawaii and Texas. It was a fine start to the four-event Wild Thangs series. All the events are at Monte Sano State Park, and have short- and long-course options. The 10K and 5K races last year also had record times.

Ella Carter of Madison won the women’s title in 26:14. She was fifth overall. Her time was good enough for sixth on the event record list. It is only the fourth record set in the women’s 5K in the last five years.
