Wild Thangs Chupacabra Results: 3 Speed to Records

Cody Case and Shelby Benton posted record times in their Wild Thangs Chupacabra half-marathon trail win Aug. 19 at Monte Sano State Park.

Also, Gabriella Wolf of Enfield, Conn., broke the Chupacabra 10K women’s course record with a stellar time of 50:35.

Case, 42, of Nashville, put his name in the event record book for the third time with his winning time of 1:57:17. He was the only finisher of 154 to cross the line in less than two hours. The time was the third-best in the event’s Top 10. Case holds the men’s record, set in 2018, of 1:48:14.

Benton, 31, of Huntsville, finished 14th overall and first in the women’s division with her time of 2:23:37. Her time is fourth-best in the women’s Top 10.

The half-marathon and 10K events were the final ones of the Running Lane Wild Thangs summer series that began in June. The first year for the series was 2018. Running Lane is working on a Wild Thangs winter series, with more to come soon about it.

Runners from nine states including Pennsylvania, Texas and Utah, along with one from England, competed in the half-marathon. The course took runners on some of the more technical trails in the state park, including a dip down into McKay Hollow and up to Trough Springs before finishing with a climb up Death Trail.
