Nathaniel Pierce held off Eli Britnell to win the inaugural MidCity 5K on Saturday in Huntsville.
Pierce finished in 17:48, with Britnell close behind in 17:51.
Alana Holbert won the women’s division and was 19th overall. She finished in 23:34. Tatiana Pena was second (27th) in 24:29.
Proceeds benefit the Maitland Arts Initiative, which provides access to arts education, resources and opportunities. The race had 299 official finishers.

Alabama A&M 5K Trail
Gavriel Stubbs of Madison sped to an easy win in the Alabama A&M 5K trail race Saturday morning at Chapman Mountain Preserve.
Stubbs, 15, zipped around the course in 23:49, with Jonathan Falwell, 34, of Huntsville, second in 24:29. James Ebert, 38, of Huntsville, was third in 24:37.
Tia Larsen-Calcano, 28, of Madison, defended her women’s title with a fifth-place finish in 26:24. Bryana Wilson, 37, of Madison, was second (11th) in 29:15.
The race has roots dating to 1972 when it began as the Alabama A&M Trail Race. It has been held on the Alabama A&M campus, moving around to different locations on the campus. It began as a 10K, with a 1-mile track fun run, and for a bit was a 7K, before becoming a 5K trail race in 2014.

Greenway Grand Prix
Nenemiah Johnson of Meridianville won the first of four Greenway Grand Prix races Friday night at the Aldridge Creek Greenway in south Huntsville.
Johnson, 17, won by more than 30 seconds. Megan Allan, 42, of Huntsville, won the women’s division and was seventh overall. She finished in 18:48.
The series consists of four evening events increasing in distance and at different greenways in Huntsville and Madison. The next is June 26 on the Indian Creek Greenway in Madison.

Sundrop Festival 5K
PULASKI, Tenn. — Carson Borden of Florence won the inaugural Sundrop Festival 5K on Satuday by about 15 seconds.
Borden, 15, crossed in 18:15 to take the top spot.
The race began at the Fields and Beams Realty offices, went through downtown Pulaski and out to Giles County High School. Runners then looped back to the finish.
