Wade Mountain Marathon Results: Mullens, St. Charles Grab Top Honors

HUNTSVILLE — Matthew Mullens and Aden St. Charles took top honors in the 8th Wade Mountain Marathon last Saturday at Wade Mountain Nature Preserve.

Mullens, of Owens Cross Roads, finished in 4:39:17, about 15 minutes ahead of runner-up Adam Panagos of Madison. He crossed in 4:54:06. Jake Mitchell of Madison was third in 5:20:47.

Aden St. Charles of Chattanooga claimed the women’s division title and was fifth overall, crossing the line in 5:43:56. Carrie McCary of Huntsville was second (10th overall) in 6:10:08, and Amelia Harrison of New Market was third in 6:30.

The Wade Mountain Marathon is the only trail marathon in north Alabama. It’s put on by Running Lane Events. Twenty-three runners finished this year’s marathon.

Runners complete two loops around the technical, two-hill course that offers a stunning view of Huntsville from atop the Devil’s Racetrack. The 935-acre preserve is part of the Land Trust of North Alabama. Running Lane also puts on the Smokerise Half and 10K at the Land Trust’s Blevins Gap preserve in south Huntsville.

Wade Mountain Half-Marathon

Dylan Glass of Gurley paced the 81-runner field in the Half-Marathon with a winning time of 2:06:17.

Derrick Clark of Anniston was second in 2:20:44, and Vinnie Athey of Huntsville was third just a few steps back in 2:20:55.

Jenny Gage of Madison took top women’s honors in 2:29:38. She was eighth overall. Alex Ford of Madison was second (9th) in 2:36:30, and Jean Gill of Sioux City, Iowa, was third (10th) in 2:36:52.

Runners from six states participated. The half-marathon always has had an ample field, as does the 10K.

Kyle Mendendorp of Hartselle won the 10K in a fine time of 47:13. That’s good for third-best in the Top 10 records for the event. Runners-up David Riser and Daniel Cunningham, both of Huntsville, crossed the line in 48:53, also good for the Top 10 records. Ezra Arnason of Huntsville was third in 51:13.

Stephanie Gonzales of Columbus, Miss., won the women’s title in 56:30. She was 10th overall. Kyndal Saunders of Hoover was second (12th) in 58:58, and Evan Taller of Carmel, Ind., was third (13th) in 59:27.
